Are cat's energy bursts a safety hazard to innocent by-standers?
This morning all 8 of my cats had their energy bursts at the same time. It was like dodging bullets to keep from being hit by one as they zoomed past me. In fact, you couldn't even tell they were cats, they were just blurs flashing around the room. 17 pound Willie managed to collide with my shin and I now have a huge black and blue bruise on my leg. The party is over now. The little angels are now napping quietly, totally oblivious to the fact that left in the aftermath are spilled cereal boxes which were knocked off the top of the fridge, crooked lampshades, the dog is trembling in her bed (apparently suffering from PTSD), and I can barely walk. I think it would be wise to invest in some combat gear for me and the dog. Have you ever been injured/traumatized at a cat party?
Definitely. Now I'm fairly lucky in that I have only one, and he's indoor/outdoor, so spends most of his energy outside.
That's not to say that my crossing the yard or innocently bending over my flowerbeds is not going to be hazardous. In fact, he does an excellent impression of a sprinting and flying squirrel, which usually ends up in a mutual "humpfff", and has been known to either knock me off my hunches, or lacerate my back. If I glimpse a flash of him zooming across same yard, I know to creep like a cop around my own house, and peek around corners (watering can firmly held back) for fear I'll get attacked. It's not good for my heart.
In your situation, I would recommend either of 2 options :
1- a "great white" observation cage. Pros : the dog could come in, and any guests you may have at that time (see picture), standing room av. 6 or 9 lean persons. Cons : cannot be folded down.

2- a sumo wrestling outfit, the foamy kind. Pros : no pain + likely to become a great energy spending spinning target. Cons : hard to find one to fit the dog. Head and feet very vulnerable (unless you get the "toe slippers" to go with it).
