What to do with a poor little baby blue jay? Any vets out there?
This morning I found a baby blue jay sitting on the ground under a tree. Its parents were circling it and calling to it. It must've fallen from the nest, and it's too small to fly back up.
It started hopping around and fell in the creek. I quickly picked it up and took him to the middle of the yard (I didn't touch him though)
Then it started raining. I had to take him inside. But what do I do with him now? I don't know what to feed him or how to get him back to his parents.
Help me please!
Put him back where you found him! (Not in the creek, obviously!) Baby birds fledge (leave the nest) several days before they can fly. They hop around the ground and climb on low branches until their wings strengthen to the point that they can fly. The parent birds still feed and care for the baby until he is eatng on his own.
Wild birds are outdoor animals. They survive in the rain.
You can put him back, and the parents will still feed him. It is an old wives tale that birds will reject their babies if a human touches it.
Do not try to take care of the bird yourself. In the US, it is illegal to have any native wild bird, unless you have the proper permits.
