what's the best way to write on unglazed pottery ?
I have my own kiln and like making personalised gifts for friends and family.The problem is writing names and sentiments on the unfired bisque, underglaze pens tend to leave a blotchy and scratchy look and the nibs wear down very quickly and painting by hand is time consuming ,can anybody suggest an easy method to write neatly and what tools and underglaze are recommended and where can I obtain them. Thank you
Have you tried slip trailing? It's quite easy once you get the hang of it and the things for holding the slip are easily available from your usual suppliers. you can get pigments to colour the slip also.
