Turtle bay resort Hawaii?
hiya
does anyone have any experiance with Turtle bay resort in Hawaii? thinking of going for honeymoon but have read mixed reviedd on tripadvisor,dont want to spendall that money if i dont enjoy it!
The Turtle Bay Resort just went through a large multi-million dollar renovation, so it is decent again, I don't understand how people say rooms are worn when they were redone recently. They also built some bungalows along the beach ($$$$) and a new wing, so perhaps they never renovated the old wing (hard for me to believe that though). When I drive around the island, I stop maybe once a year to sit on their beach. The restaurant food, however is still so-so, you will do better to take the drive into Haleiwa to eat (Jamiesons by-the-Sea, etc.). The resort is fairly simple but well-done, and definitely is the only decent resort that gives a true "outer island" feel on the island of Oahu, and on the North Shore with its great beaches and ambience.
I checked the reviews on Tripadvisor (I use Tripadvisor a lot) and they are actually pretty decent.
If you can afford it, I really like the Kahala Resort, in the Kahala district of Honolulu. It does not give the outer-island feel of the Turtle Bay Resort, but is removed from the hustle-bustle of Waikiki and Honolulu in the wealthy enclave east of Diamond Head, is quiet and absolutely luxurious. Rates are way down because of the recession!

As far as the resorts in the Koolina area (Ihilani), I have never figured out why people like it, especially when it is next to an oil refinery only a mile or so away, the beach and lagoons are man-made, really LOOK artificial. Also, it is on the leeward (dry) side of the island and really far from Honolulu or North Shore.
